Chlamydia,Sexually Transmitted Disease(STD)

In the United States, chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted diseases. A bacterial infection, chlamydia infects about 5% of the people. The most likely contracted chlamydia who are African American people living in urban areas, adolescents and young adults, who fall at the low end of the socioeconomic status. The bacteria who cause this is, Chlamydia trachomatis.

Chlamydia can be transferred from one person to another by sexual means and a mother to her unborn child during delivery. This bacteria can cause eye infections in a child and / or pneumonia. Women with chlamydia usually do not exhibit any symptoms, but bleeding between menses or after intercourse, abdominal pain, dysuria, and vaginal discharge can be seen in some cases. Also, men who contract chlamydia are usually without symptoms. However, they also may have a discharge, dysuria, and / or difficulties in the testicular region.

The chlamydia diagnosis is made by microscopic examination and / or cultures of the discharge, urine tests and blood work. Like many victims chlamydia are also prone to other STDs, testing should be made for this too. The treatment for chlamydia is a course of antibiotics.

For if left untreated, chlamydia can worsen and cause pelvic inflammatory disease in women or more severe testicular problems in a man.
