Sexual Life During Pregnancy

Today, thanks to various studies on the subject about sexual activity during pregnancy that has increased the general interest of a greater number of pregnant couples to obtain information that fade myths and fears about it significantly.
Sex is an essential part of human life, and besides being instrumental in perpetuating the species, implies pleasure, affinity, safety and personal fulfillment, and during the course of pregnancy strengthens the relationship of the parents. However, there are pregnant couples who avoid sexual practice for fear of affecting the fetus.
If a few years ago the issue of sexual practices during pregnancy was little attention in prenatal care, there is now greater openness, so that the orientation of the couple or the pregnancy is more objective and takes into account their sexual and reproductive.Obviously the physician must have a full understanding of the issue of sexual activity during pregnancy, especially if it presents a risk.
Normal pregnancy
Normal pregnancy occurs when the sperm fertilizes the egg. In the first ten weeks after fertilization organs form different organ systems. The duration of pregnancy is 266 days, or nine months, with three quarterly periods. During this time, mother and baby make bond and create a microenvironment of life and harmony till birth, to physiological changes in the different stages that promote normal development of pregnancy.
 Risk pregnancy clinic
Although human reproduction is a natural process from the biological point of view and physiological adverse situations occur involving the loss of up to 15% of pregnancies in the first quarter, caused by many different factors that have nothing to do with sexual activity.
The high-risk pregnancy clinic is defined as the state of potential complications for mother and fetus, and is given as a result of any diseases or previous pregnancies were situations that pose a threat to the mother, child, or both, and the new pregnancy forced to take intensive preventive care.
Risk situations
The most common risk situations that may pose clinical risk for the mother and child are:

  • Vaginal bleeding after sexual intercourse at any stage of pregnancy.
  • Abnormal insertion of the placenta  (ie, when the placenta is not placed correctly) with or without the presence of vaginal bleeding.
  • Uterine bleeding at any stage of pregnancy without apparent reason.
  • Incompetent cervix or weakened cervix before treatment with cerclage (a procedure to give a stitch in the cervix to dilate it should not before time, the point is removed at the time of delivery).
  • Rupture, or suspected rupture of the amniotic sac or water source.
  •  Uterine contractions from moderate to severe at any stage of pregnancy.
  • Repeated pregnancy loss in the first quarter.
  • Have been at risk or have suffered from disease in past pregnancies. Have suffered abdominal trauma during pregnancy.
In all these cases the couple or pregnant should ask their doctor whether or not they have sex. When the pregnancy is progressing satisfactorily, but there were risk factors for disease or previous pregnancy, you should make the clinical and prenatal testing, so the doctor can tell if sexual activity is permitted. However, there is no doubt that the final decision lies with the partner or one of its members.

Sexual and reproductive health
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the sexual and reproductive health is related to the general and comprehensive physical, mental, social and the reproductive system and its specific performance, which allows the individual to enjoy a satisfying sex life without risks and violence, with absolute respect and freedom to decide their sexual practice and the number of children they want to have (if you want them) and when
 Prenatal Care
Prenatal care refers to the set of actions that are performed by a pregnant woman to promote normal development of pregnancy, as well as more specialized care that is offered to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases or complications of pregnancy may endanger the life of the mother and child. According to WHO, half of all pregnancies in the world was unplanned and 25% unwanted. This scenario leads in principle to assess the potential impact it can have on the mother and the child's rejection of pregnancy and the importance of care before birth.
