Ginger Prevent Inflammation in Colon Cancer

The researchers found that ginger reduces markers of inflammation of the colon and
suggest that this supplement can be an effective preventive agent for colon cancer.

Ginger is a known source of bioactive phenolic compounds with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiproliferative already demonstrated.

Here, Professor Suzanna M. Zick, a naturopathic doctor, research assistant professor at the University of Michigan and his colleagues recruited 30 patients were randomized and given two grams of ginger root supplements per day (vs placebo ) for 28 days. After 28 days, the researchers measured levels of inflammation of the colon and identified statistically significant reductions in most of these markers.

Inflammation of the colon is considered a marker or a precursor of colon cancer. Previous studies have shown that proteins involved in the mechanism of inflammation could also promote the development of colon cancer by regulating both inflammation and tissue repair of the intestine.

This effect of ginger root, which has yet to be demonstrated in larger studies, could provide a new means of prevention, natural and non-toxic to prevent cancer especially in patients at risk. Remember that a recent study published in late August 2011 in the British Journal of Nutrition revealed in vivo preventive and curative properties of ginger against cancer of the prostate.
